You can work with a Mindfulness Based Health Coach in a one-on-one relationship to improve your health, vitality, and well-being by overcoming limiting beliefs and engaging in behaviors that have been proven to improve health and prevent disease. Common coaching goals including weight loss, life balance, improved sleep, stress management, lifestyle change, stress management, pain reduction, general vitality, performance enhancement and emotional wellbeing.

Most people in these conditions have a good intention, a desire to change and even make earnest attempts. Often the reason they are unsuccessful is a lack of psychological knowledge, skills, capacities, processes, tools, mindsets and support that lead to the healthy lives they want. Through the coaching relationship you will develop these capacities, overcome the resistance to change and make consistent and sustainable progress toward your greatest potential. 

Holistic Approach to Healthy Lifestyle Change

Although your initial goals are likely to improve an aspect of your physical health, Coaching takes a systems approach to the change process. To be truely Integral or holistic is to understand the impact that your entire life has on your health.  So for us to make an improvement in one area of your life--your health, we must address the balance of your entire life including your physical environment, your relationships, your career, finances, and even areas like recreation and personal growth.  With your life more balanced and prioritized, you’re less likely to be distracted and more likely to experience a state of "flow" while following your new healthy intentions.

Confidence + Autonomy = Sustainable Change

According to research Albert Bandura, permanent health change is directly correlated to the confidence in your ability to make permanent health change.  This confidence is known as self-efficacy. But what if you’ve struggled for years to make this change, how are you supposed be confident? Simple, take the first baby step.  I’ll help you break down big goals into specific, weekly actions and together we’ll set you up for a series of small wins.  Increasing momentum and confidence are an upward spiral and slowly but surely you’ll realize that in fact you CAN do this.

This confidence and “I can do it” attitude is crucial for sustained change and permanent results. In fact, it’s the only way.  Our current health care model is built on an expert giving advice on what we should do. According to behavioral theories and research, when it comes to making lifestyle changes, not only does advice not work, it’s actually disempowering.  Hierarchical relationships have shown to result in increased levels of the stress hormone, cortisol which leads to a resistance to change and undermines your self efficacy.

As your coach, I’ll treat you as the expert on your own life and empower you to take responsible for your choices and actions. I’m NOT going to make it easy on you by giving you all the answers. Rather, I’ll ask you lots of questions and encourage you to make your own choices and discoveries, so that your new lifestyle will be your own. This is the way to sustainable results.  

Mindfulness Is the Foundation of Change

With it’s foundation in mindfulness practice, coaching helps you become more aware of your conditioned behaviors, habits and choices in the moment. By learning how to mindfully observe your thoughts and feelings, you’ll be able to watch your old behaviors from a new perspective and consciously respond to triggers in a healthy way rather than habitually react to them in an unhealthy way.  For example, have you ever gone on auto pilot after hanging up from an emotionally intense phone call, only to find yourself moments later at the bottom of a bag of Oreos?  I’ll teach you to feel the emotion in your body, watch the thought of, "mmm, want some Oreos" (or whatever your vice) and then choose something different, like taking a few deep breathes, having a glass of water or making dinner.
